Responsible Lending
A loan that cannot be repaid is a bad outcome for both of us. Here is what we commit to, specific enough that you can hold us to it.
A loan that cannot be repaid is a bad outcome for the borrower and a bad outcome for us. This page sets out the commitments we hold ourselves to, in specific enough terms that you can hold us to them.

We lend on affordability, not desperation
Every decision weighs your income, your existing monthly commitments and your banking history alongside your credit report. We decline applications where the payment does not fit, even where a borrower is willing to sign, and we frequently approve less than the amount requested for the same reason.
What we commit to
| Commitment | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Full cost disclosure before signing | APR, every fee in dollars, each payment date and the total of payments |
| No rollovers | Payday loans are never automatically renewed, and we do not lend to cover a payment on an existing loan with us |
| One short-term loan at a time | We do not stack short-term loans on the same borrower |
| No prepayment penalty | On any product, ever |
| Cooling-off periods respected | Where a state requires a gap between loans, we apply it |
| Extended payment plans | Offered at no extra charge where state law requires them |
| Hardship handled by people | A named team, not an automated dialler: see trouble paying |
| No criminal action for non-payment | We do not pursue it and do not threaten it |
We publish cheaper options than our own
Our guides cover credit union PALs at 28% APR, cash advance apps, biller payment plans and government assistance programs, and several of those beat our products on cost. That is deliberate. If a cheaper route exists and you take it, we would rather that than fund a loan you regret.
How we market
- We do not advertise "guaranteed approval". No licensed lender can guarantee approval before seeing an application.
- We do not advertise "no credit check". We run a soft inquiry, and we say so.
- We do not make unsolicited calls or texts offering approval for a loan you did not apply for.
- We do not use countdown timers or expiring offers to pressure a decision.
- Every APR figure on this site appears with the dollar cost beside it.
Who we will not lend to
- Anyone whose income does not support the payment
- Covered service members and dependents, at any rate above the 36% Military APR cap
- Anyone with an existing open short-term loan with us
- Residents of states where we are not licensed for the product
- Anyone borrowing for a prohibited purpose: gambling, tuition, securities or cryptocurrency, or anything illegal
Holding us to it
If we have not met these commitments, say so. The complaints process has published timelines, and you can go to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau or your state regulator at any point without asking us first.
Frequently asked questions
Do you check that a loan is affordable?
Yes. Every decision weighs income, existing monthly commitments and banking history alongside the credit report. We decline applications where the payment does not fit and often approve less than the amount requested.
Do you roll over payday loans?
No. Payday loans are never automatically renewed, and we do not lend to cover a payment on an existing loan with us. We also issue only one short-term loan at a time.
Why do you promote cheaper alternatives to your own loans?
Because a borrower who understands the cost is a borrower who repays. Our guides cover credit union PALs at 28% APR, cash advance apps and biller payment plans, several of which beat our products on cost.
Do you advertise guaranteed approval?
No. No licensed lender can guarantee approval before reviewing an application, and we do not advertise no-credit-check loans either, because we run a soft inquiry.
